INTRODUCTION TO THE COLLEGE AND LOCATION OF
THE COLLEGE:
With a college as old as this one, IP College for Women's
infrastructure seems to be suggesting otherwise. The one storey
building lends a palatial feel to this college located at civil
lines. Located a stone throw's away from the civil lines metro
station, accessibility to IP College is butter smooth.
FACILITIES:
The outstation students can breathe a sigh of relief as IP College
houses a hostel that can accommodate 200 students and have another
hostel being opened in the coming academic year. Apart from this,
the college also has a cyber cafe for its students and staff only.
Like every other college, IP College too has a well maintained book
bank with a collection of over 78,000 books!
COURSES OFFERED
Veering off to the academic now, in this all girls' college the
courses offered are poles apart from one another. The courses vary
from the unconventional course in computer application to Sanskrit
(Hons). Post graduate courses are also offered in various subjects
like English, psychology and music! But the college is primarily
known for its courses in psychology, philosophy and most
importantly mass communication. Many would be surprised to know
that IP College is the only college in the whole of DU to offer a
course in mass communication at the graduation level. Boasting of a
state-of-the art audio visual studio, IP College for Women is
touted as the best in the field.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES/STUDENTS' SOCIETIES:
Being a student here would be rather eventful for IP College for
women has a plethora of extra-curricular activities to choose from.
A gamut of students' clubs like the Dramatics society, the
Editorial society, the dance society, the Nature club and the
Debating society amongst several others, await you at IP College
for Women when you are tired of digging your head into books. And
the sea of choices does not end here; the college also harbours a
well-equipped gymnasium, extensive playing fields and a swimming
pool. There is still some more that IP College has in store to
offer- if your heart beats for the welfare of the society then you
can enrol in the National Service Scheme. This scheme has its
students helping the differently enabled with their routine chores
and also includes participation in blood donation camps.
FAMOUS ALUMNI:
Famous Alumni include Late Smt Sucheta Kriplani (Chief Minister),
Smt Pratima Puri, Ms. Sarla Maheshwari, Ms. Ritika Jhanjhi (News
presenter on NDTV Profit), Yashika
Dhillion and several others who have made their presence felt! All
this and lots more makes IP College for Women one of the most
sought after colleges in Delhi University.
ADMISSION INFO
As the time for Delhi University admissions draws closer, the need
to be abreast of the proceedings becomes all the more necessary. At
Indraprastha College for Women, all attempts are made to make the
otherwise tedious admission procedures a cakewalk. Starting usually
on the 1st of June and lasting for about a fortnight, centralised
forms are made available across the parts of Delhi to make the
procedures less cumbersome. IP College for Women accepts
centralised forms unlike a few others. However, while applying for
the course that IP College offers in mass communication the
candidate is required to buy a separate form from the college
ELIGIBILITY:
The stipulation for being eligible for all the courses is that the
candidate must be of the age of at least 17 years.
ADMISSION INFO:
To avoid last minute rush, mark some dates on your calendar. For
starters, Delhi University usually starts the sale of admission
forms from the 1st of June and gives almost a fortnight for the
submission of the forms. The first cut off list is declared usually
in the beginning of the last week of June and the subsequently
lists are declared at a gap of four days from each other. Apart
from this, there always seems to be some confusion about the
timings during which the sale and submission of forms is
functional. IP College like most other colleges commences its'
admission procedures at 10am and goes on for three hours before
calling it a day.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR THE MASS COMMUNICATION COURSE
This college holds a rigorous 3-tier entrance exam for its much
coveted mass communication course. The only mentioned prerequisite
for this course is for the candidate to have an aggregate of 55% in
10 + 2 examinations. Fulfilling the only requirement leads the
candidate to be eligible for the entrance exam.
As stated before, this course is not covered in the centralised
Delhi University form and hence the applicants need to buy a
separate form from the college premises. The sale of prospectus and
forms commences on the 4th of May from 10am to 4pm and is priced at
a humble cost of RS. 100. The fees for the 3-tier entrance exam for
the general category is Rs. 800 whereas those from the reserved
categories can avail the form at a price of Rs. 400. Last date for
receipt of the form is the 15th of June.
The first round of the entrance, which is scheduled to take place
on the 20th of June, tests how well aware one is of the current
happenings. The results of the same will be put up on the 25th of
June. Clearing this, the second round that will take place on the
27th of June marks you on your creative writing skills. Once you
find your name in the result list declared on the 30th of June, you
will be called for the last and toughest round i.e. the personal
interview in the first week of July. If you manage to sail through
this one, there is no stopping you
PREVIOUS YEAR'S CUT OFFS:
Shifting the spotlight to other courses now, the cut-offs for
courses such as Commerce (H), Computer Science (H) and Economics
(H) hovers around the 90% mark while for English (H), the cut off
is usually around 88-90% depending upon the candidate's chosen
stream. Other cut-offs like that for Psychology (H) settle down at
about 87-88%, and Philosophy (H) at sits pretty at 70%.
